For those of you that follow my blog you would have seen my post of the completed nursery for our little girl Thea, today I wanted to share with you how I achieved the DIY feature wall in her bedroom.
Firstly you will need:
Paint (in your chosen colour)
A roller
Painters tape or quality masking tape
A tape measure or ruler
A pencil
1. Ensure the wall surface is clean and dry.
2. Create a boarder around the entire wall using the painters tape.
3. Measure the width of the wall and divide into even sections - I chose 5 sections but depending on the size of your wall you might want more or less. Mark with a small pencil dot where the top and bottom of each section will be.
4. Mask up the sections using the painters tape - using the pencil marks as a guide to create straight vertical lines.
5. You are now ready to mask up the diagonal lines within the sections. The spacing between the lines is completely up to you - but ensure it is even, use the measuring tape and pencil to mark out the distance between each diagonal line.
6. Once the wall is completely masked you are ready to paint.
7. Paint one section at a time with the roller ensuring you create an even coat.
8. Peel the painters tape off before the paint has a chance to dry completely, I found this the best technique to minimise the 'bleed' from the paint.
9. Let the wall dry and start decorating!
Tip:
I found using a good quality painters tape also assisted with a minimal bleed from the paint, however I am yet to create a perfect line! If anyone has any tips or tricks on how to do this please let me know!

I am looking for ideas to do something similar.
ReplyDeleteOne tip I picked up .. After masking the wall, start by painting the edges of the pattern in the base colour, white in your example. Then logic is that this will then bleed under the tape, and block up the leaks.
Once dried, when you do the contrast colour, ie grey, you will get clean(er) lines.
I have not tried it, but will do ...!

Beau Monde Mama- Did you have a pattern you were usuing or some rhyme or reason to your diagonal lines? They are awesome! So perfectly imperfect. I could just use yours as my pattern I suppose.
